The following video is of our robot and bells playing Mary Had a Little Lamb:

Since last week, the design of our structure has been modified to be more stable.
Here is a photo of the structure of how the bells are held:

Over the past week, we have established the final design of how the bells are positioned:

Use of KNex, four different note bells, duct tape
We have connected all four Servos to the Arduino and breadboard:
Each Servo is labeled with the corresponding bell note that it will control

Design Update

The following design adjustments have been made:
  • rather than a flat surface base (such as a piece of cardboard), fasten bells to a K Nex structure
  • AA batteries have been determined to be the best power source unique to this design

Design Proposal

Brief Description of Design:

  • The sound will be produced by a set of bells being jingled. The chiming of these bells will be controlled through the movements of the servo to which each bell will be connected. These servos will be our mechanical actuators in our setup.
  • The majority of the components will be powered by batteries. Since the servos require 4.8-V, we will use the appropriate batteries for the servos to accommodate this voltage. The only component not powered by batteries will be the Arduino, as it will be powered by the computer through the USB port.
  • The bells we have ordered range from low F to a high F. However, we may only utilize 5 of these bells, so only 5 notes from this scale will be used.

Preliminary Design Sketch

This is the preliminary design sketch for our robot-powered bell song setup:

It consists of:
  • platform
  • 5 bells each of different notes
  • 5 actuators
  • bread board
  • Arduino
  • 5 yellow wires, 5 red wires, 5 white wires
  • duct tape
  • computer for control panel
  • batteries
